KANSAS CITY, MO – A high-speed accident in Kansas City on Friday morning left a motorist critically injured, KMBC reported.
The single-vehicle wreck took place at about 11:45 a.m. along Interstate 70 eastbound near Jackson Avenue.
According to the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, the driver of a Toyota Camry was traveling at a high rate of speed and drove off the right side of the interstate. The car went into an active construction zone, hit a dirt mound, went airborne and then rolled.
The driver was ejected from the car and was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The individual was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. No construction workers were hurt.
The incident shut down two lanes of I-70 for about two hours while the scene was being cleared and investigated.
