News: 1 dead, 1 injured after vehicle overturns, hits tree in Bates County

BATES COUNTY, MO – One person was killed and another injured when their vehicle crashed in Bates County early Monday morning.

 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s accident report, the fatal wreck occurred on Missouri 52 at County Road 3502 at 1:39 a.m.

 

The MSHP’s preliminary investigation found that the driver of a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading eastbound when the vehicle crossed over the center line and traveled off the roadway.  The Jeep then overturned and collided with a tree.

 

A passenger, a 35-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.  She was not wearing a seat belt, state troopers said.   The driver, a 37-year-old man, was taken to Bates County Hospital with minor injuries.  He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.  Both occupants of the Jeep were from San Luis, Arizona.

 

The highway patrol was assisted at the scene by the Bates County Sheriff’s Department.
