KANSAS CITY, MO – A Kansas City Fire Department ambulance responding to a call was struck by a tractor-trailer on Saturday night, according to KCTV.
The ambulance was heading north on U.S. 169 Highway when the collision happened at about 7:08 p.m. The ambulance driver had pulled over behind a vehicle on the highway near Missouri Highway 152 when the ambulance was hit by the tractor-trailer. After the crash, the truck crossed the median and entered the southbound lanes of U.S. 169.
The tractor-trailer driver was taken to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries. No fire department personnel were injured.
The accident resulted in a fuel spill from the truck which was cleaned up by a Kansas City Fire Department hazmat crew. The highway was shut down in both directions while the area was being cleared.
