INDEPENDENCE, MO – Police in Independence are investigating a collision on Wednesday night that left a bicycle rider hospitalized, the Kansas City Star reports.
The incident happened at the intersection of East 23rd Street and Lee’s Summit Road. Investigators learned that the bicyclist was riding in that area at about 8:45 p.m. and was struck by an eastbound Ford Focus. The victim, whose age and gender were not released, was transported to an area hospital and listed in critical condition.
Police said the driver of the Focus left the scene initially following the crash, but then called dispatch later to report their involvement.
