INDEPENDENCE, MO – Independence police said two people have now passed away as the result of an accident that occurred last month.
KCTV reported on the death of the second victim, identified as 30-year-old Devin J. Bruntmyer of Independence, who had been critically injured in the incident.
The crash occurred on Oct. 14 along Interstate 70 in the area of Missouri 291 Highway. Police said Bruntmyer was driving a Mazda 3 at about 5 a.m. when he lost control of the car while trying to merge onto I-70 westbound.
The Mazda went off the roadway, crossed over all three lanes of I-70 and struck a median wall. It was then struck by an Acura ILX before both cars were hit by a third vehicle.
The driver of the Acura, 67-year-old Richard Brouilette of Blue Springs, Missouri, was also killed in the wreck.
Independence police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
