KANSAS CITY, MO – Police in Kansas City said a collision Sunday morning left a passenger dead and two drivers hospitalized, KCTV reports.
The incident began when an officer tried to stop the driver of a Cadillac who was doing doughnuts at the intersection of Truman Road and Grand Boulevard at about 3 a.m., police said.
When the driver took off heading north on Grand Boulevard at high speed, the officer disengaged from the pursuit.
The Cadillac then hit the back of a stopped Chevy Silverado pickup, causing the Chevy to strike a traffic light pole and a decorative light pole before catching fire. Police said the officer involved in the initial traffic stop put out the fire and began to render first aid.
A passenger in the Cadillac was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. Both drivers were hospitalized. The Chevy driver suffered what were described as life-threatening injuries while the Cadillac driver suffered critical injuries.
