KANSAS CITY, MO – Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred in Kansas City on Saturday night, according to Fox4KC.
The victim was a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a vehicle in the vicinity of Independence Avenue and Monroe Avenue at about 10 p.m.
Police said the driver of a Toyota Camry was traveling west on Independence Avenue at a high rate of speed and failed to stop a red light. The pedestrian, who was crossing the street from Monroe Avenue using a marked crosswalk, was struck by the Camry and knocked to the ground.
The driver then ran over the victim, who was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. The driver fled the scene of the crash without stopping police said. No information was released on the identity of the victim.
