News: Driver, dog killed when SUV slams into utility poles in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO – A fiery car wreck in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon killed a driver and a dog who was in the vehicle, according to KCTV.

The accident happened in the area of Prospect Avenue and E. 27th Street, where first responders arrived at the scene at about 4 p.m.

An investigation indicated that the driver of a GMC Yukon lost control of the vehicle while speeding west on E. 27th Street, and went off the right side of the roadway.

The SUV sheared off a wooden utility pole, then hit a metal utility pole and caught fire.  The driver died at the scene, and a puppy was thrown from the vehicle and also killed.

Debris from the crash struck and damaged three other vehicles that were stopped at a red light.   The incident also knocked out some of the power in the area.
