KANSAS CITY, MO – Police said a speeding driver was killed in a wreck near Raytown on Friday night, reports WDAF.
The accident took place in the vicinity of 63rd Street and State Route 350 at about 7 p.m. A preliminary investigation by Kansas City police indicated that the driver of a Mazda Protege was traveling at high speed while going east on 63rd Street, and drove off the road.
The vehicle went over the median and hit the base of a bridge before rotating into the opposite lanes of 63rd Street and collided with a Buick Century.
The Mazda driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim was not immediately released. A passenger in the Mazda was hospitalized in critical condition. The driver and passenger in the Buick were in stable condition after being transported to an area hospital.
Kansas City police are continuing to investigate the incident, which was the 24th fatal crash of the year in the city compared to 13 at this time in 2023.
