News: 1 teenager killed, 1 injured in truck accident in Ray County

RAY COUNTY, MO – One teenager was killed and another injured when their vehicle crashed in Ray County Friday night, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

 

The incident occurred on Atkins Road near Route C shortly before 9 p.m. According to the MSHP, a 17-year-old male was driving a 2002 Ford truck and lost control as the vehicle crested a hill.

 

The truck began to skid, went off the left side of the roadway, overturned and collided with a tree before coming to rest.

 

The driver, a resident of Liberty, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, a 15-year-old boy from Lawson, Missouri, was seriously injured and airlifted to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. The driver was not wearing a seat belt but the passenger was, state troopers said.
