BENTON COUNTY, MO – A multi-vehicle collision in Benton County Monday morning left one driver dead and another injured, reports the Benton County Enterprise.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol was called to the scene in the area of U.S. Highway 65 and Byrum Avenue south of Warsaw at about 5:30 a.m. State troopers learned that the driver of a 2024 Ford Escape was heading southbound and crossed over the center line, colliding with a northbound 2026 Freightliner Cascadia.
The Escape then went off the left side of the roadway and ended up in a ditch, while the Freightliner ran off the right side of the road, where it struck a garage and a parked 1984 Mercedes-Benz.
The driver of the Escape, a 59-year-old man from Buffalo, Missouri, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the fatal wreck. The Freightliner driver, a 54-year-old man from Springfield, Missouri, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with minor injuries.
No one was inside the garage or the parked Mercedes at the time of the collision.
