KANSAS CITY, MO – Police said a driver trying to evade a traffic stop caused a multi-vehicle accident in Kansas City on Wednesday night.
WDAF reports the incident began when officers attempted to check on a KIA 5 in the vicinity of 34th Street and Indiana Avenue sometime before 5:30 p.m.
According to police, the Kia driver shifted into reverse and hit the front of the police car, then fled north on Indiana Avenue at high speed. Police said their emergency lights and siren were initially on but were turned off when the suspect fled.
Police said the suspect driver went through a red light and eventually collided with a Chevy Silverado that was going east with a green light. The impact sent the Chevy into a Dodge Caliber that was waiting to make a turn.
The Kia then hit a nearby building and the driver was taken into custody. One passenger was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening. The drivers of the Chevy and Dodge were not hurt. 31st Street was shut down in both directions while the scene was being cleared.
