SALINE COUNTY, MO – The Missouri State Highway Patrol released information regarding a fatal crash that occurred on Interstate 70 in Saline County on Saturday night.
State troopers said the driver of a 2003 Hyundai Sonata was heading eastbound shortly after 8:30 p.m. when the car went off the side of the interstate near mile marker 83 and went through the median cables before spinning into oncoming westbound traffic.
The Sonata was then hit by two westbound Freightliner tractor-trailers. The Hyundai driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as 18-year-old Landon Vaughn of Leavenworth, Kansas. It was not known whether he was wearing a safety device.
The driver of one of the tractor-trailers, 66-year-old Willie Campbell, and his passenger, 46-year-old Robert Marshall, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Fitzgibbon Hospital. Both are from Illinois. The driver of the other truck was not injured.
The MSHP was assisted at the scene by the Saline County Sheriff’s Office and the Boonville Police Department.
