SMITHVILLE, MO – A driver is facing charges following an accident in Smithville that claimed the life of a young child Friday night, the Kansas City Star reports.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Lacy James of Smithville was driving a 2014 Ford F150 near 8 Jolisa Court shortly after 11 p.m. when she put the vehicle into reverse. The MSHP’s crash report said the Ford struck a 3-year-old girl. The child was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.
James, who sustained minor injuries, was later arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and killing another, and driving while suspended. She was taken to the Clay County Detention Center.
