News: Suspect runs red light and causes collision in Kansas City, police say

KANSAS CITY, MO – Three people were injured Tuesday morning following a car crash involving a fleeing suspect, Kansas City police said.

According to KSHB, the sequence of events started in the area of East 82nd Street and Troost Avenue where a police officer tried to stop the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu for a traffic violation at about 12:25 a.m.

Police said the driver of the Malibu took off going north at a high rate of speed and officers stopped chasing the car several blocks later.

At East 75th Street, the driver went through a red light and crashed into a Jeep Cherokee.  Two people in the Jeep, the adult driver and a juvenile passenger, were transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.  The Malibu driver was also hospitalized with serious injuries.

There was no immediate word on any charges stemming from the incident.
