News: Riverside man killed when car crashes into bridge support in Platte County

PLATTE COUNTY, MO – A driver was killed when his car crashed in Platte County Saturday morning, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

 

The MSHP’s accident report identified the victim as 19-year-old Eyoatme Melaku of Riverside, Missouri.   He was driving southbound on Riverway Boulevard near Missouri 9 when the incident happened at about 5:53 a.m.

 

State troopers said Melaku was behind the wheel of a 2016 Ford Fusion when he crossed the center of the roadway, travelled off the left side and collided with a bridge support. The vehicle returned to the roadway and caught fire.

 

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the MSHP said.
