News: Police identify man killed when car collided with wheelchair in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO – New details have been released in the case of a crash in Kansas City that killed a man in a wheelchair last week.

According to the Hays Post, Kansas City Police said the victim has now been identified as 50-year-old Danny L. Maynard.

The accident happened Nov. 21 along U.S. 49 Highway. An investigation determined that the man was crossing the southbound highway from east to west near the Red Bridge exit when the incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m.   The driver of a southbound Chevrolet Cruze merged toward the right shoulder to yield to a fire truck that had its siren and emergency lights on, and did not see the man in the wheelchair.

Maynard was struck by the front of the Chevrolet.  He died after being taken to an area hospital.  The driver of the Cruze was not injured.
