KANSAS CITY, MO – Police say a man was killed in a pedestrian accident on Interstate 435 in Kansas City over the weekend.
According to the Kansas City Star, the incident occurred early Sunday morning in the southbound lanes of I-435 near NE 53rd Street at about 2 a.m.
Investigators said a car was parked in one of the lanes of the highway without its lights or flashers on. As the driver of a pickup truck was heading south and looking at that car, a pedestrian entered his path. The pickup driver could not avoid the pedestrian and hit him, according to police. The victim was critically injured and was pronounced dead later at an area hospital. His name was not immediately released.
Police said this was the eighth traffic fatality in Kansas City so far in 2022 compared with three at this time last year.
