News: Motorcyclist dies after colliding with pickup near Prospect Avenue

KANSAS CITY, MO – A collision at an intersection in Kansas City Thursday killed a man riding a motorcycle, police said.

Police and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and Prospect Avenue at about 5:15 p.m., according to WDAF.

Investigators determined that the driver of a Ford F-250 vehicle was headed north on Prospect Avenue and stopped at a red light. As the light turned green, the driver started turning left and spotted a maroon vehicle going south on Prospect Avenue. The Ford driver made the turn at the same time as the maroon vehicle but did not see a Suzuki motorcycle that was going in the same direction.

As the Ford was turning left, the motorcycle crashed into the vehicle head-on. The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike. The rider was pronounced dead after being rushed to an area hospital.
