News: Man sentenced in fatal hit-and-run at Truman Road and Main Street

KANSAS CITY, MO – A Jackson County judge sentenced a man in connection with a deadly hit-and-run incident that occurred in Kansas City, Missouri in August 2023, reports WDAF.

Terrence Dunlap-Jones Jr. of Kansas City was sentenced to four years for first-degree involuntary manslaughter and four years for leaving the scene of an accident, with both sentences to run concurrently.

According to investigators, Dunlap-Jones was driving a Chevy Tahoe and had left the scene of a previous crash near 19th Street. Police said he then drove through a red light at the intersection of Main Street and Truman Road and collided with a Chrysler PT Cruiser, which struck a Jeep Wrangler.

The driver of the Chrysler, 41-year-old Kameron Cobbins, was killed in the wreck while a passenger in her vehicle was seriously injured. After an investigation aided by surveillance video from the scene, police were able to track down the Chevy Tahoe involved in the crash.   A woman told police the vehicle was parked in her backyard, saying that Dunlap-Jones had parked it there and never came back for it.  He was subsequently arrested.

Police say Dunlap-Jones was driving with a revoked license at the time of the incident and was driving 48 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.
