KANSAS CITY, MO – Kansas City police said an accident on U.S. 49 Highway Wednesday night claimed the life of a man in a wheelchair, the Kansas City Star reports.
An investigation determined that the man was crossing the southbound highway from east to west near the Red Bridge exit when the incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. The driver of a southbound Chevrolet Cruze merged toward the right shoulder to yield to a fire truck that had its siren and emergency lights on, and did not see the man in the wheelchair.
The man was struck by the front of the Chevrolet. He died after being taken to an area hospital. The victim’s name was not released. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
