News: Man charged in Northland hit-and-run that killed bicyclist

KANSAS CITY, MO – Authorities have announced an arrest in a hit-and-run incident in Kansas City that claimed the life of a bicyclist, according to the Kansas City Star.

41-year-old Brian Zug of St. Joseph, Missouri, the alleged driver in the incident, has been charged with driving while intoxicated resulting in a death and leaving the scene of an accident.

The crash occurred early Sunday morning near North Oak Trafficway and 81st Terrace in the city’s Northland, in the Jefferson Highlands area.

According to Clay County prosecutors, Zug was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck at about 2 a.m. when he struck the bicycle rider and kept going until reaching the parking lot of a nearby strip mall.  The bicyclist, 31-year-old Rick D. Snow, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later found the pickup truck on North Oak Trafficway with front-end damage and bicycle parts lodged in it, and took Zug and a front-seat passenger into custody.  Zug was booked into the Clay County jail on a $100,000 bond.
