KANSAS CITY, MO – Authorities said a driver being chased at high speeds crashed in Platte County on Saturday morning and was subsequently arrested.
A report by KCTV states that the incident began at about 1 a.m. when a Platte County Sheriff’s deputy tried to stop the driver of a 2917 Dodge Challenger who was speeding at over 90 miles per hour while merging onto Interstate 29.
The Dodge driver kept going faster and a pursuit ensued with the Dodge reportedly reaching speeds of up to 134 miles per hour. When the deputy lost sight of the vehicle, he turned off his emergency equipment to end the chase. Several minutes later, another deputy found that the Dodge had crashed and caught fire on NW 72nd Street near I-29.
A passenger in the car was taken to an area hospital with moderate injuries. The driver, 23-year-old Christopher Fry of Kansas City, Missouri, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the hospital. He was then taken to the Platte County Jail and was charged with resisting arrest/detention/stop by fleeting- creating a substantial risk, and operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, involving an accident.
Fry pleaded not guilty and was being held on $8,500 bond with another court hearing set for Aug. 20.
