KANSAS CITY, MO – A driver was hospitalized after being hurt in a hit-and-run crash in Kansas City Friday night.

A report by KCTV states that the incident began in the area of 43rd Street and Cleveland Avenue, where police attempted to pull over a Dodge Charger for a traffic violation shortly after 6:30 p.m.

Kansas City police say the driver refused to stop and took off on Benton Boulevard heading south.  Police officers did not pursue the vehicle.

The driver went through a red light at the intersection of Benton Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and slammed into an eastbound Nissan XTerra. The Nissan then hit a traffic light pole and overturned. The driver of the Nissan was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital.

Police said the driver and occupants of the Charger fled the scene of the crash on foot and had not yet been located.
