News: Independence man dies after crashing into tree and parked car on Truman Road

INDEPENDENCE, MO – An Independence man was killed when his sport utility vehicle crashed on Christmas night, police said.

According to a report by KSHB, the victim was identified as 26-year-old Tyler Kelley.

Police said Kelley was driving a Chevrolet Traverse on Truman Road at N. Grand Avenue at about 8 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle.

The SUV went across the roadway, crashed into a large tree and then collided with a parked car that was unoccupied.

Kelley was pronounced dead at the scene.  Police said he was not wearing his seat belt at the time.

Independence police are investigating the wreck and believe that speed and poor road conditions were contributing factors.
