BATES COUNTY, MO – The Missouri State Highway Patrol said one person was killed and three others injured in a collision in Bates County on Monday afternoon.
The MSHP’s accident log said the accident happened on Missouri State Highway A and County Road 7007 west of Rich Hill. According to state troopers, 23-year-old Andrew Medina of Hume, Missouri, was driving a 2002 Mazda Hatchback westbound when he crossed over the center line and struck a 2012 Jeep Cherokee head-on.
Medina was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep, a 77-year-old woman, and a passenger, an 84-year-old woman, both from Hume, suffered serious injuries and were taken to Research Medical Center. Another passenger in the Jeep, an 18-year-old man from Nevada, Missouri, suffered moderate injuries.
Medina was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, troopers said.
