KANSAS CITY,  MO – A suspected drunk driver was involved in a fatal wrong-way crash in Kansas City early Sunday morning, according to the Kansas City police.

A report by KMBC states that the driver of a 2021 Ford Flex was going south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 49 sometime before 3:30 a.m.

Kansas City, Missouri police attempted to stop the Ford and get the driver’s attention, but the vehicle kept going in the wrong direction into the city of Grandview.

The Ford eventually crashed into a 2013 Ford Taurus headed north. A woman riding as a passenger in the Taurus was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Taurus suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.  The driver of the Flex was seriously injured.

Grandview police said alcohol was believed to have been a contributing factor in the incident, which remains under investigation by the department’s Specialized Enforcement Unit.
