INDEPENDENCE, MO – A pedestrian was taken to the hospital following a crash in Independence on Saturday night, according to the Kansas City Star.
Police were called to the scene in the vicinity of U.S. 40 Highway and 36th Street shortly after 10 p.m. on a report of a person possibly hit by a vehicle.
Officers arrived to find a man and his dog on the sidewalk. The man, a 51-year-old Independence resident, was hospitalized with serious injuries. There was no immediate word on whether the dog had been injured.
Video surveillance showed a burgundy Chrysler 300 stop briefly after the crash and then flee the scene. A search is now underway for the driver and the vehicle, which is believed to have front-end damage.
