News: Driver killed when car tumbles down embankment in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO – A single-vehicle accident in Kansas City Sunday evening left a driver dead, according to police.

The Kansas City Star reports the incident occurred in the vicinity of East 63rd Trafficway and Hardesty Avenue at about 6:40 p.m.

Investigators learned that the driver of a Mercedes 300D was going east at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The car went off the road, overturned, and tumbled down a 120-foot embankment into a gorge. The driver was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The driver, whose name was not immediately released, was not wearing a seat belt. No one else was in the car at the time of the wreck, which remains under investigation.
