News: Driver killed in rollover crash on U.S. 71 near Bannister Road

KANSAS CITY, MO – Police responded to a deadly multi-vehicle wreck in Kansas City on Wednesday afternoon.

KSHB reported three vehicles were involved in the incident on U.S. 71 Highway northbound near Bannister Road shortly after 4 p.m.

Investigators determined that the driver of a Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV was going north at a high rate of speed.  The SUV sideswiped a GMC Yukon next to it that was stopped in heavy traffic.  The Trailblazer then rear-ended a Jaguar XF that was stopped in front of the Yukon.

The Trailblazer rolled over and the driver was ejected, suffering fatal injuries.  Police said the victim was not wearing his seat belt. A child who was in the car seat of the Chevy was hospitalized in stable condition. The drivers of the other two vehicles refused medical attention.

The northbound lanes of U.S. 71 were shut down for about two and a half hours for the crash investigation.
