KANSAS CITY, MO – Police said a driver was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Kansas City on Friday morning.
According to KSHB, the driver of a Jeep Liberty was going at a high rate of speed on Interstate 70 west at about 7:30 a.m. and lost control of his vehicle near the East 23rd Street overpass.
The Jeep went across three lanes of traffic, hit a concrete median and went airborne. The driver was thrown from the vehicle onto the left shoulder of I-70. The Jeep hit a concrete pillar and ended up on its roof in a passing lane. The driver, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead later after he was taken to an area hospital.
The westbound lanes of I-70 were shut down at Jackson Avenue for about 90 minutes as police and emergency units responded to the wreck. The closures resulted in major traffic backups of several miles for rush hour commuters.
