News: Construction worker killed in I-49 hit-and-run, suspect arrested

CASS COUNTY, MO – The suspected driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run crash in Cass County Saturday morning is under arrest, authorities said.

 

According to KCTV, a construction worker was struck by a Ford F-150 headed northbound on I-49 at about 1:30 a.m. The worker, 35-year-old Jonathon Wilson of Kansas City, was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the driver involved fled the scene on foot after the crash. The alleged driver, identified as 24-year-old Trent Mitchell of Independence, was arrested on Saturday evening. He is facing multiple charges, including felony leaving scene of a motor vehicle accident, felony driving while intoxicated, and endangerment of a highway worker.

 

Authorities shut down the area around the scene of the crash for over five hours during the investigation and cleanup.
