CASS COUNTY, MO – A collision in Cass County on Saturday afternoon claimed the life of a 9-year-old girl from Raytown, according to the Kansas City Star.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene on Missouri 7 highway near County Road 227th at about 2:40 p.m. An investigation determined that the driver of a 2021 Kia Soul went through a stop sign and collided with a southbound 2019 Honda Pilot.
The Honda overturned twice and came to rest on its side. The 9-year-old, a passenger in the Kia, died after being taken to an area hospital. Two other children in the Kia, boys ages 9 and 6, sustained moderate injuries and were taken to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City. The driver of the Kia, a 50-year-old Bates City woman, was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Four people in the Honda were injured. The 38-year-old driver, a 62-year-old male passenger and 14-year-old female passenger were seriously injured, while a 46-year-old male passenger suffered moderate injuries.
The MSHP was assisted at the scene by the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
