News: 2 injured when vehicle overturns on icy roadway on US 50

JOHNSON COUNTY, MO – Two people were injured when their vehicle was involved in a rollover crash in Johnson County Monday morning, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

The accident happened on westbound U.S. 50 at Route Z, according to the MSHP’s accident log.

State troopers said the driver of a 1988 Mazda B-Series was headed west at about 5:44 a.m. when the vehicle slid into the median due to the ice-covered roadway and overturned.  The driver, 41-year-old Bryan Phillips, was ejected into the median.

Phillips was seriously injured and transported to Research Medical Center.  His passenger, 36-year-old Tyler Jennings, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Western Missouri Medical Center.  Both are residents of Holden, Missouri.   Neither man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, state troopers said.

The MSHP was assisted at the scene by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department.
