News: 2 dead after stolen SUV collides with motorcycle at Independence intersection

INDEPENDENCE, MO – Independence police said a collision involving a stolen SUV and a motorcycle left two people dead Wednesday night.

 

According to KCTV, the incident happened in the vicinity of Scott Avenue and Winner Road just before 11 p.m.

 

Police said the driver of a stolen Jeep Cherokee was trying to evade police officers after being spotted near E. 29th Street and Santa Fe Road.  The Jeep then collided with two motorcyclists who were going east on Winner Road.

 

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger on the bike died after being transported to an area hospital. Police said the Jeep driver kept going after the crash and was driving the wrong way on several roads before being stopped by a police vehicle. 

 

The Jeep driver, who suffered minor injuries, was taken into custody following the accident, which remains under investigation.
