News: 1 dead, 6 injured in collision on westbound I-70 in Lafayette County

LAFAYETTE COUNTY, MO – One person was killed and six others injured in a collision in Lafayette County early Sunday morning, state troopers said.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash report said the incident occurred on westbound Interstate 70 at mile marker 45.8 shortly before 1 a.m.

An investigation indicated that 46-year-old Terry Ashley of Blue Springs, Missouri was driving a 2017 Hyundai Elantra when he struck a stationary towed unit from a previous crash. The Elantra then traveled into the path of a 2023 Hyundai Palisade driven by 33-year-old Shelby Brewer of Edmond, Oklahoma, causing a collision.

A passenger in Ashley’s vehicle, 37-year-old Jennifer Farley of Blue Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ashley was seriously injured while Brewer suffered moderate injuries. Three other passengers in the Elantra suffered minor injuries, including a 1-year-old girl. All injured occupants were transported to Centerpoint Medical Center.
